Majolika - with history over 100 years.

The full name is called “Slovenská ľudová majolica”, hereinafter referred to as Majolika.

Majolika is located in the small town of Modra. Founded in 1883, it has evolved from the original pottery craft training center and cooperative to a current joint-stock company. It was once closed in the beginning of 2016. After going through ownership change, organization reconstruction and financial consolidation, finally it anew produce and open to the public at the end of 2017. It now shoulders the mission of production, preservation, innovation and inheritance of traditional folk majolica. In the most beginning, the decoration pattern was influenced by the nearby workshops. Later, the representative ceramicists of the studio, such as Heřman Landsfeld and Ján Ludvig, collected the decorative patterns of the jug studio in western Slovakia to create their own decorative sample set. Its work has been applauded in world exhibitions and can be regarded as representatives of Slovak folk ceramics.

Majolika is now a small traditional hand-painted majolica studio. All products are made and finished in this studio. It includes: collecting raw soil from nearby field, making clay, shaping, kilning, glazing, hand-painting to final kilning product. Most of the painting patterns came from folk decoration of nearby villages in western Slovakia. A small shop selling its own products is attached to the studio. Every piece is exquisite and completely hand-painted. Not expensive and Lovely.

The visit lasts about 1 hour and includes: welcome speech, brief history of Majolika, film introduction of pottery making process, shaping demonstration, visiting painting room and shop.
